Pesticide Impacts on the Phytobiome

Significant research is ongoing in the area of microbial communities (microbiomes).  Pesticides are commonly used in many urban and suburban landscapes to control weed, insect, and disease pests.  But pesticides may also have non-target impacts, which could alter the microbial structure on the plant, the soil or both.  These altered communities may have significant long-term impacts on the health of the landscape, and we intend to use applied and molecular-based approaches to further investigate the impact of pesticides on landscape phytobiomes and develop strategies that will minimize any non-target effects.
